 K2 Cares answers the Salvation Army's call for help to deliver
39 thousand pounds of spaghetti!
Eagan, Minnesota: K2 Logistics, a full service logistics industry leader focused on supply chain management, knows the significance of teamwork. So when the Salvation Army made a public plea recently to the transportation industry for help delivering 39 thousand pounds of pasta to Iowa flood victims, K2 Logistics never wavered. The company announced today its K2 Cares program is teaming with the Salvation Army and the Dakota Growers Pasta Company to help Iowans devastated by the flood in Cedar Rapids.
"When we learned there was a need for help with logistics, we responded immediately," said Tom Lehmann, Chief Strategy Officer for K2 Logistics, which is headquartered in Eagan. "We want to assist charitable causes any way we can through our nationwide network of K2 employees, volunteers and loyal partners. This is yet another example of our ability to deliver solutions."
K2 Cares will provide a semi-trailer truck, driver and complete transportation services. K2 Logistics will pick-up more than 1300 cases of spaghetti, donated pasta from the Dakota Growers Pasta Company in Fargo, North Dakota. The 20 pallets of pasta will then be delivered direct to a relief center in Cedar Rapids located at the old Econo Foods Building (1900 51st Street NE). The shipment is expected to arrive in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, July 17th.
"It's exciting to watch how community members can take a dilemma and turn it into a blessing," said Major Darryl Leedom, Salvation Army Twin Cities Commander. "Not only are we getting this amazing donation of pasta delivered to families who need it, but the pasta donation has tripled in size and we found a new partner in K2 Logistics."
The Dakota Growers Pasta company, based in Carrington, North Dakota stepped up and generously donated the thousands of pounds of pasta. "Our shareholders, who are predominately farmers are committed to helping others", stated Tim Dodd, President and CEO." We're delighted to join theal Thanksgiving care packages that include grocery bags stuffed with food items and cards with well wishes.
